Great fun at fête

Children had a blast with their parents at Daeraad Pre-Primary School’s annual fête.

Fun and laughter were the order of the day at Daeraad Pre-Primary School’s annual fête held at the school, last Saturday.

Families came out in their numbers to attend the fundraising event.

“We host the fête every year in May or June to raise funds,” said the school’s principal, Martie Schmiedeskamp.

“We don’t have funds so we have to raise our own funds in order to maintain the school.

“The support from the parents and children was wonderful; we really appreciate it.”

A ghost house, that kept the hearts of those who entered it pulsating, was among the entertainment enjoyed by young and old alike.

Community members heeded the call to have flea market stalls at the fête, which displayed different crafts.

“The children’s games, tea garden and ghost house, among other things, were organised by the teachers, learners and parents,” said Martie.

“Classes were given different tasks and assigned a teacher and parent in preparation for the event.

“The parents were really helpful, as some of them donated items.”

The school’s deputy principal, Loamie van Wyk, said they saw some old faces at the event.

“We were privileged to see former students of the school,” said Loamie.

“Most of them told us that they love the school and wanted to show their support.”

Martie also said people are welcome to take part in next year’s fête.

“This is an annual event and we are already inviting people to take advantage of next year’s event,” she said.

“We have two tables available to elderly people who also want to display their crafts.

“The elderly have a lot to offer and we would like them to get involved.”

Loamie and Martie both agreed that the event wouldn’t have been possible without the help of the staff.

“We have a good team and we are deeply grateful for that,” said Martie.

“Thank you to the staff because they worked hard towards the wonderful and successful day this proved to be.”
