A 24-year-old man was recently arrested by the Katlehong police on a charge of armed robbery, after he and an accomplice, allegedly robbed a woman at gunpoint.
The 25-year-old woman told patrolling officers, shortly after the incident, that she had been walking in the Kwanele Section, of Katlehong, when she was approached by two men.
The men allegedly held her at gunpoint and demanded that she hand over her cellphone. Once they had the cellphone they ran away.
“The victim accompanied the officers in the direction that the men had fled and was able to identify one of her alleged attackers in a local graveyard,” said Capt Mega Ndobe, Katlehong corporate communications official.
Police arrested the man after finding the woman’s cellphone in his possession.
“The other suspect managed to run away when he noticed the police,” said Ndobe.
Residents have been asked to be on the alert when in the area as it has been identified as a crime hotspot by police.
The man will appear in the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court soon.
“Officers are currently investigating whether the accused can be linked with other robberies in the area,” said Ndobe.
