Vryburger celebrates massive milestone

Hoërskool Vryburger High School celebrated its 60th birthday with a host of fun activities.

Sixty years ago Hoërskool Vryburger High School opened its doors to the youth of Germiston.

Staff, learners (past and present) and parents celebrated this momentous milestone with three days filled to the brim with fun activities.

The celebrations were kicked off with a parade through the streets of Primrose on Thursday.

Students, who have been preparing for the celebrations for months, carried brightly coloured signs while singing and dancing as they walked through the streets, watched over by members of the Primrose police, Primrose Crime Prevention Youth Desk and the EMPD.

The march was led by the school’s principal, Ian Olivier, with the help of the school’s spirit squad and brightly dressed dancers.

Onlookers watched in delight as the colourful parade wound its way through the streets, finally returning to the school, where students and special guests gathered on the field.

Guests and police congratulated the school on their milestone and wished them many more successful years to come.

Celebrations continued on Friday with a fun day and foam party for the students to enjoy.

The birthday activities culminated in a special gala evening held at the school on Saturday, which saw special performances by the school’s choir and drama department.

“My dream for Vryburger’s learners and staff members is that together we will take the school to even greater heights in the years to come,” said Olivier during the celebrations.
