Help Dawnview dancer realise her dream

Dawnview dancer has qualified to compete at the World Freestyle Championships.

She is young, talented and freestyling her way to the top.

Xené Fowlds (13) is a freestyle dancer, from Dawnview, who has recently qualified to compete at the World Freestyle Championships, in Blackpool, in the United Kingdom, on June 24 and 25.

“A dancer has to secure a podium position in four qualifying competitions throughout the year to qualify,” said Xené’s mother, Jana.

“You have to at least qualify in three out of the four competitions and Xenè won all four of her competitions, last year, including the South African Freestyle Championships, in December.

“She wins most of her competitions and we are proud of her.

“She has a lot of medals and trophies as she just keeps excelling.”

The young dancer said she is beside herself with excitement over her recent achievement.

“It feels amazing; it is a dream come true as I have been dancing since the age of seven,” said Xené.

“I have always wanted to take part in the championships and now I have qualified, which is great.”

The local youngster also said she had to quit other sports to focus on dancing.

“I used to play netball until last year, but I decided to leave netball for dancing because at times I would be too sore or tired for dancing,” said Xené.

“I love dancing and decided to focus solely on it.”

The freestyle dancer said she trains from Monday to Friday.

“My trainer, Keziah van Vreden, and I train very hard in preparation for competitions,” said Xené.

“I give dancing my all but I still make sure I don’t neglect my studies.”

The youngster’s mother agreed that dancing doesn’t affect her studies.

“I like that she still commits herself to producing impressive results in her school work,” said Jana.

Xenè said hard work and passion are her secret to excelling in competitions.

“You have to train hard and be committed. Another secret is that you have to show the judges your passion for dancing and that you are dancing because you love it,” said Xenè.

Jana said they have to raise R85 000 to make Xené’s dream of competing at the World Freestyling Championships a reality.

It is for this reason that they are organising a fund-raising event for her in June.

“That amount includes everything, like transport and accommodation,” said Jana.

“We will host an event for her on June 3 at Hot Spot, in Benoni, in an effort to raise funds for her trip.

“People are invited to attend and help us make this trip possible for Xené. It will be more of a social gathering and we hope it will be lots of fun.

“Bring the whole family and come have fun while supporting Xené.”

Pick n Pay Primrose is one of Xené’s sponsors.

“We are fortunate to have Pick n Pay Primrose, XLS Solutions and PPS Consultancy as sponsors for the trip,” said Jana.

“Thank you to JP Lombard, at XLS Solutions, for making the sponsorship possible and family and friends who have promised to help us raise funds.

“We appeal to the community to help us put together enough money for the Blackpool trip.

“We are still in need of funds even with the sponsors on board.

“We will appreciate any form of sponsorship.”
