For many animals in the city, the Germiston Bedfordview SPCA is the only place they can seek refuge, whether they have been abandoned, lost or treated cruelly. However, this might soon no longer be the case as the society is in dire straits financially, and without urgent financial assistance the doors might soon close to the animals.

Crime against paramedics and emergency services is a growing concern for local motorcycle club, Firefighters Joburg. Although the crimes against the first responders differ, the severity of the crimes does not. Jan Liebenberg, president of the motorcycle club, said while attempting to save a patient’s life paramedics are robbed of medication and even raped.

Gauteng residents were encouraged to break out their winter woollies as a cold front hit the province last weekend. The South African Weather Service warned Johannesburg residents to prepare for a significant drop in temperatures over the weekend as a cold front swept in from Mpumalanga last Friday morning, causing temperatures to drop to a low of nine degrees by the evening.

The sound of gunshots ripped through the Lambton air as a shootout between Fidelity guards and five or six suspects took place recently. According to Capt André de Jager, spokesperson for the Ekurhuleni West cluster, the suspects overpowered a guard carrying a money box with an undisclosed amount of cash from the Absa bank at Lambton Court Shopping Centre and grabbed the money box.
