The sound of gunshots ripped through the Lambton air as a shootout between Fidelity guards and five or six suspects took place late last Monday. According to Capt André de Jager, spokesperson for the Ekurhuleni West cluster, the suspects overpowered a guard carrying a money box with an undisclosed amount of cash from the Absa bank at Lambton Court Shopping Centre and grabbed the money box.

For many animals in the city, the Germiston Bedfordview SPCA is the only place they can seek refuge, whether they have been abandoned, lost or treated cruelly. However, this might soon no longer be the case as the society is in dire straits financially, and without urgent financial assistance the doors might soon close to the animals.

3 National News – Patron shot, killed in restaurant robbery: https://bit.ly/2q8msMd

A restaurant patron was, recently, killed during an Edenglen business robbery. Capt Jean Olckers, spokesperson of the Edenvale SAPS, said the robbery took place at a restaurant on Harris Avenue. He said between four to six suspects, some armed with handguns, committed the crime. Olckers said some of the suspects entered the restaurant, others waited in the parking area and one waited in the getaway vehicle.

4 Katlehong girl (13) found in Eden Park after alleged kidnapping: https://bit.ly/2pNlouI

Members of the Katlehong police and Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit recently arrested a 30-year-old man for the alleged kidnapping and rape of a young girl. The 13-year-old girl was found in Eden Park, in Boksburg, after her family reported her missing from the Zuma Section, in Katlehong, on April 7.

5 Babies’ home saved: https://bit.ly/2qZ90rd

The babies in the care of El-Shammah Home for Abandoned Babies and Place of Safety, in Primrose, can all rest easy now as they have a safe place to stay. This safety comes after celebrity siblings Bobby and Karlien van Jaarsveld and the Jacaranda FM Good Morning Angels stepped in to help raise funds to purchase the house they are homed in.
