Kings of Improg (KOI) drummer, Slade Du Randt, beats the skins during the band’s lively performance on the BenRock stage, last Saturday.
Rock fans from across the East Rand were treated to a rocking day last Saturday as a host of local bands took to the BenRock stage.
BenRock was held at the The Beer Co and Runway Beach Bar, and saw stand-out performances from Anubis, Kings of Improg (KOI), Lauren Wanda, Monkey Finger, The Burning, The Color Blew and Winston Slide.
Attendees revelled in the home grown talent on offer, singing and dancing along to songs from their favourite artists, and vying for a host of spot-prizes.
BenRock is the brainchild of two Benoni bands that was conceived in late 2015 – by the end of January last year, The Burning and Monkey Finger had performed at the first show which was a great success.
The inaugural event was held at Old Benonians Football Club and it was attended by nearly 500 people.
This anticipated success of this year’s event was the reason that organisers saw the need to showcase more bands who have the same drive and dedication to local music and thus a bigger venue was required – BenRock is managed by the bands for the bands and aims to placate the already rock music starved local community.
Their foresight paid off with last Saturday’s event proving just as successful as predecessor, offering something for young and old to enjoy.
