New face at Roseacres

Life Roseacres Hospital will welcome a new face to the hospital’s team in May.

Dr Pierce van Tonder will be bringing a unique speciality to the Life Roseacres Hospital from May.

Van Tonder is a phytotherapist, which means he uses plants, together with modern scientific research, through medical training, to treat his patients.

Phytotherapy is a science-based medical practice and is thus distinguished from other, more traditional approaches, such as medical herbalism, which relies on an empirical appreciation of medicinal herbs and which is often linked to traditional knowledge.

In South Africa a phytotherapist must have completed a five-year post-graduate BSC degree in phytotherapy and hold professional registration with the Allied Health Professions Council of South Africa (AHPCSA).

Van Tonder’s aim is to treat the person as a whole and get to the root of problems in order to eradicate symptoms and address the cause of disease.

For this form of medicine to work optimally, it needs to be used holistically in a formulation made specifically for the patient.

For more information call the hospital on 011 842 7500 or email van Tonder at drvantonder@gmail.com.
