Let there be light, says mayor: https://bit.ly/2ov688D

Ekurhuleni’s executive mayor, Clr Mzwandile Masina, has announced a R2.4-billion programme for the electrification of informal settlements across the metro. The project plans to have completed the electrification of over 16 000 households by the end of this financial year. The five-year programme has started in informal settlements located on state-owned land while legalities to roll out the programme in informal settlements on privately owned land are being reviewed.

You said:

  • Carol Mafagane, “The mayor is directionless. In his opening speech as mayor he spoke about building 100 000 houses in order to eradicate the squatter camps now he speaks about lighting squatter camps up. The ANC government have no desire to better the lives of black people.”
  • Morne Kriel, “Yes and we as tax payers are going to have pay for this, with our electricity costs going up.”
  • Paul Coombes, “Those who benefit must pay!”
