A 26-year-old man was recently arrested by members of the Katlehong Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit for the alleged rape of a five-year-old girl.
The arrest was made in the Siphamandla informal settlement, in Katlehong, when the child’s mother called police to the scene of the crime.
“The mother told officers that she and her boyfriend had been asleep when they heard a noise from the young girl’s room.
“She claims that when she went to investigate she found her daughter half naked and the accused, the child’s uncle, in the room,” explained Capt Mega Ndobe, of the Ekurhuleni West cluster.
When asked what had happened the little girl allegedly told her mother that her uncle had raped her.
“She was taken to hospital where doctors confirmed the rape,” Ndobe said.
The suspect is expected to appear in the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court soon.
