Residents frustrated with power interruptions

Continuous power outages in Lambton blamed on old power cables.

According to Lambton residents Barnard Street has been plagued with on-going power failures.

The power interruptions, which residents say, happen daily can last for several hours at a time.

“When we call the metro they always tell us that there is a cable fault, but surely the fault should have been addressed and repaired by this stage,” said Mike Gordan-van Dyk.

The GCN sent a query to the metro in an attempt to get more clarity on the situation.

The metro were asked what the cause of the problem was and when a lasting solution would be implemented in the area.

Spokesman for the metro Themba Gadebe responded to the GCN’s query stating that the outages were caused by old electrical cables in the area.

“The metro is working on a replacement programme in the area, as the old power cables found in the area keep failing in different areas.

“The replacement will start as soon as the necessary procedures have been followed,” he said.

No timeline was given for the project, however, Gadebe assured residents that in the meantime repairs would continue as faults were reported to the metro’s call taking centre.
