Stolen vehicle discovered in Marathon

Driver flees alleged stolen vehicle when approached by police in the Marathon informal settlement.

While in the Marathon informal settlement recently, serving a protection order, an officer from Primrose police noticed a suspicious vehicle.

He approached the vehicle, which had three occupants, but before he could reach it the driver jumped out and ran away.

“The officer asked the passengers, aged 22 and 25, why the driver had fled the scene and they claimed they did not know.

“They only knew that he had recently purchased the vehicle,” said communications officer for the Primrose police, Sgt Styles Maome.

The vehicle’s registration was investigated and it was discovered that the vehicle had been hijacked in Germiston, a month before.

A case had been opened with the Germiston police.

The two men were arrested and charged with possession of a stolen vehicle.

They were detained at the Primrose Police Station and will appear in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court soon.
