Two people were shot during a cash-in-transit heist on the corner of Spilsbury and Meyer streets, in Germiston, last Monday. “Two armed suspects, driving a Toyota Rav 4, approached one of the cash-in-transit security guards. One of the suspects pointed a gun at the security guards and took a bag of money from them,” said Capt George Raphulu, head of communications for the Germiston SAPS.

2. Chemical leak at Germiston factory leaves numerous people injured: https://bit.ly/2nRM7aq

An apparent chemical leak at a factory on Power Street left numerous people injured, last Monday. ER24 paramedics, along with several other services, arrived on the scene and found approximately 50 to 100 people standing outside the nearby factory. It is understood that the factory had evacuated the workers after one of the chemicals leaked.

A chemical leak at Interwaste Environmental Solutions, in Power Street, left numerous people injured, last Monday morning. “A tipper bin filled with chlorine had a chemical reaction which resulted in a vapour release. Firefighters from the Germiston and Boksburg fire stations arrived on scene and found that some of the factory workers had inhaled the chemical fumes,” said the station manager at Ekurhuleni Disaster and Emergency Management Services (DEMS), Daine Jones.

4. Diandra blazes ahead to scoop coveted accolade: https://bit.ly/2n70rwT

Many students were honoured during a special assembly at Germiston High School last Friday, but none shone as bright as matric student Diandra du Preez. Diandra was awarded one of the school’s highest honours, a white blazer, in recognition of her many achievements over the years.

5. Woman allegedly attacked by husband: https://bit.ly/2mS9HoA

After returning home from a family visit, recently, a Turnhout Avenue husband and wife began to argue. “The victim claims her husband accused her of disrespecting him, before he allegedly began to beat her with a beer bottle,” said Sgt Styles Maome, communications officer for the Primrose police.
