Road causes traffic chaos for commuters

A stretch of Lower Main Reef Road has been causing endless problems for road users.

After continual requests by road users and the Ward 36 councillor, Wendy Morgan, a portion of Lower Main Reef Road has finally been fixed by the metro.

The road, where a trucking company is situated, was in a terrible state of disrepair, with potholes claiming one side of the road.

Morgan was in contact with the relevant departments on an almost daily basis to get the road fixed.

Potholes are now starting to form on the opposite side of the road.

When the GCN visited the site with Morgan recently, the road had finally been fixed but Morgan said she could see further problems developing as potholes were starting to develop on the opposite side of the road.

“Traffic from the trucking company is also continuous and something needs to be done in the area to alleviate the traffic problems,” Morgan said.

“The EMPD has visited the site and said they cannot man the area all the time.

“Traffic congestion in the area needs to be looked at.”

A frequent user of the road, Katie Geyser, said the stretch of road had been an absolute nightmare to use as motorists had to go onto the other side of the road to clear the problem area.

She added that it was also extremely dangerous.

She reported the problem to the metro and received no response from them.

The GCN also asked the metro for comment on the issue, more than once, but received no response.
