The top five stories on www.germistoncitynews.co.za for the week, March 25 to 31, were:

1. Watch: Chaos ensues at Ekurhuleni’s State of the City address, EFF escorted out by EMPD: https://bit.ly/2oaceuF

The State of the City address did not even get started before chaos erupted in the Germiston Council Chambers, on Wednesday. EFF councillors were forcefully removed by members of the EMPD. After the singing of the national anthem by the EMPD choir, the mayor, Clr Mzwandile Masina, was called to the podium to present the State of the City address, however, before he could even say good morning the EFF interrupted with points of order.

2. Alert: Public meeting to discuss Angelo informal settlement move to border Marlands: https://bit.ly/2nPnQmo

The Primrose Sector One CPF and the Ward 92 councillor Tiziana Plaskitt held a public meeting last Saturday, March 25, to discuss the proposed housing development in Marlands Extension 45.

3. Watch: No sleeping on the job for Laerskool Oosterkruin learners: https://bit.ly/2obYA6Q

The Laerskool Oosterkruin school hall was filled with excited voices as children and teachers tried to see how many Grade Fours they could get onto a double-bed mattress, recently. As the day marked World Sleep Day, Hirsch’s, together with Cloud Nine and Rest Assured, came up with the idea of seeing how many learners could fit onto a queen- or double-sized mattress.

4. Criminals target Uber and metered taxi drivers in various parts of Germiston: https://bit.ly/2mHTsKG

Metered taxi and Uber drivers are being warned to be on high alert, especially in the Buhle Park and Primrose areas. The Elsburg SAPS and the Primrose SAPS issued the warning after a number of robbery incidents were reported to them.

Unsafe old mining land, alleged irregularities with the purchase of the land, no consultation with residents, no environmental assessment and no geographical study are just some of the things which have reared their heads in the proposed move of the residents of the Angelo informal settlement. The settlement, located in Boksburg, is believed to house about 6 000 residents and now the metro has allegedly decided to relocate residents to Driefontein Stand 87, Portion 230.
