Masina’s leadership in the spotlight

A special council meeting was held at the Germiston Council of Chambers and the focus was on Clr Mzwandile Masina’s leadership.

The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Ekurhuleni brought a motion of no confidence against the executive mayor of Ekurhuleni, Clr Mzwandile Masina, in a special council meeting at the Germiston Council of Chambers recently.

According to Ghaleb Cachalia, the DA leader in Ekurhuleni, the motion follows the mass collapse of almost every level of service delivery.

“We brought this motion in an effort to bring meaningful change and get the basics right for everyone in this metro,” said Cachalia.

“The DA has been raising the issue of service delivery affecting communities throughout the metro.”

Cachalia also said that the African National Congress (ANC) failed to put Ekurhuleni communities first.

“From crisis to crisis, the ANC-led coalition continues to act irresponsibly and recklessly,” he said.

“It continues placing its own agenda ahead of those of the communities who rely on the metro and the vulnerable have been the most affected.”

The ANC chief whip in Ekurhuleni, Jongizizwe Dlabathi, shared different views.

“The motion purports that Masina has failed to use the resources of the municipality in the best interests of the local municipality,” said Dlabathi.

“In our view, this statement is not in sync with the 100 days progress report provided by Masina.

“Among other things, the leadership of Masina continues to ensure that we use resources to continue to provide sustainable free basic services at an annual cost of about R2-billion.”

The DA’s motion to remove Masina was not successful.

“Sadly, the ANC and its coalition partners voted against our motion,” said Cachalia.
