Ekurhuleni, Lusaka to deal with issues of heritage conservation

Tripartite Memorandum of Understanding signed.

Ekurhuleni’s executive mayor Clr Mzwandile Masina completed the signing of the tripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the mayor of Lusaka in Zambia, Clr Wilson Kalumba, on Thursday.

The signing took place in the mayor’s parlour at the Germiston Civic Centre.

“As the City of Ekurhuleni, by signing this Memorandum of Understanding we want to deal with issues of heritage conservation, by implementing a number of strategic initiatives, both in Lusaka and here in South Africa.

During the signing of the tripartite Memorandum of Understanding, Ekurhuleni’s executive mayor Clr Mzwandile Masina (right) presented the mayor of Lusaka Clr Wilson Kalumba a copy of a letter written by OR Tambo while in exile.

“We also look forward to strategic sessions on knowledge sharing and cultural exchanges.

“Between the two countries there’s a rich history of political freedom which is anchored by the foundation that is the struggle stalwart OR Tambo,” said Masina.

The Zambian signature had been outstanding on the MoU, which was signed in 2008 with Alfred Nzo District Municipality and the City of Ekurhuleni.

Masina also presented Kalumba with a copy of the letter written by OR Tambo while he was in Italy during exile.
