Firearm linked to murder

The Germiston SAPS arrested a man allegedly found in possession of an unlicensed firearm.

While patrolling in the Germiston CBD, Germiston SAPS members spotted a suspicious-looking man, last Tuesday afternoon.

The police officers searched him and found that he was allegedly in possession of an unlicensed firearm that was suspected to be stolen.

The suspect, aged 24, was arrested and taken to the Germiston Police Station for questioning.

The police’s investigation revealed that the firearm was linked to a murder that occurred in Reiger Park, last Sunday (March 19).

“The 24-year-old told police that the firearm doesn’t belong to him,” said Capt George Raphulu, head of communications for the Germiston SAPS.

“He said the suspect who was arrested in connection with the murder in Reiger Park asked him to sell it in order to get money for bail.”

The serial number on the firearm had been removed.

The suspect was detained at the Germiston Police Station pending his appearance in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court.
