Community must report altercations where EMPD officers are involved

EMPD spokesman says altercations where officers are involved are viewed in a serious light.

The EMPD views the recent incident in which a metro police officer was involved in an altercation with a member of the public in a very serious light.

The GCN’s sister paper Bedfordview and Edenvale News reported on the incident, as well as another incident in the same week.

The complainant opened a criminal case at the Edenvale Police Station and has met with the EMPD’s Integrity and Standards Unit.

The EMPD immediately started investigating the matter and is appealing to anyone who can assist with the investigation to come forward.

The outcome of the investigation will determine what further action should be taken.

If a member of the public finds themselves in a similar situation they can report the incident to EMPD spokesman Lieut-Col Wilfred Kgasago on 083 652 9914 or email to wilfred.kgasago@ekurhuleni.gov.za
