Children roaming the streets at night a problem, according to resident

Primrose Sector Two resident and community patroller warns to parents to not let their children and teenagers roam the streets after dark.

Primrose Sector Two resident and CPF patroller Billy Norris is appealing to parents in the sector to keep a close eye on their young children and teenagers.

This warning comes after he witnessed several children and teenagers roaming the streets after dark.

Norris visited the GCN’s offices to share his frustrations.

“I myself have seen young children and teenagers walking the streets alone at night, at 9pm and later,” he explained.

Norris claimed he has followed several of these children home to ensure they arrived safely.

“We are not allowed, by law, to put them in our vehicles as CPF patrollers, so instead we follow them to where they are going to ensure they arrive safely,” he said.

In one of his most recent incidents Norris saw two children, a girl and boy under 12 years old, walking down the road in pyjamas, with no shoes on.

“It was 10pm when I saw them.

“I asked where they were going and they said they were on their way to their father’s house.

“We followed them to the house, where it became apparent that their father was not expecting them,” Norris said.

In another incident, Norris and a fellow patroller stopped three teenage girls at Howe Circle in Sunnyridge.

“When we asked them where they were going they said just around the corner from the circle.

“Once again we said we would follow them home to ensure they got there safely,” he explained.

Norris claimed the girls had lied about where they were going and the patrollers followed them for several blocks before they jumped over a house’s wall and disappeared.

“I think this sort of thing is incredibly unsafe and wonder if the parents know where their children are,” said Norris.

Norris is desperately appealing to parents to watch their children to ensure their safety.
