Symhurst chess player needs community’s help

Help Cicel Vosloo raise enough money to attend the World Chess Olympiad for the Blind.

Local chess king and author Cicel Vosloo from Symhurst has been chosen to represent the country at the 15th IBCA World Chess Olympiad for the Blind (GCN, December 16, 2016).

The event is set to take place in Macedonia from June 18 to 29.

He and his teammates will compete against the best blind players from around the world, including players from Russia, Germany and the United Kingdom.

In order to make Cicel’s dream of competing a reality he needs to raise funds and to this end a special fundraiser in his aid has been planned.

The event will take place this Saturday (March 11), from 1pm, at Boni’s Sports Bar, situated at 37 Emden Road, Gerdview.

The community can look forward to a fun-filled day, which will include a potjie competition, shooter promotions and specials, a raffle and great prizes up for grabs.

Food, snacks and beverages will be on sale.

There is an entry fee to the event for adults and teenagers, but children under 12 get in for free.

There is also a small entry fee to enter the potjie competition.

The money raised will go towards making sure Cicel gets on a plane to Macedonia to hold the SA flag high at the competition.

“I come with a humble plea to please open your hearts and consider my request for sponsorship,” Cicel said.

“This will help fulfill one of my dreams.”

Cicel, who became blind after a freak accident when he was 22 years old, does not let his lack of sight stop him from achieve in the things he wants to in life – and he wants to compete in this competition.

Anyone who would like to make a donation to help Cicel or needs more information about the event can contact Sonja Vosloo on 083 742 3789 or Candice Barnardo on 083 565 3525 or send an email to candice.playmoremusic@gmail.com.
