Woman assaulted and robbed at gun-point in Stanhope road

Primrose police arrest man in connection with the robbery of a business in Stanhope Road.

A brave member of the community recently chased down and apprehended a 30-year-old man who, moments before, had allegedly robbed a Stanhope Road tavern.

It is reported that the man, who was a regular at the tavern, entered the building and began to ask the woman behind the counter about the prices of liquor.

“The woman told officers that he suddenly pulled out a firearm and pointed it at her. He then demanded money before allegedly kicking and pushing the woman towards crates of liquor and instructed her to kneel down.

“He helped himself to the money in the till, (R3 720 in total), car keys and a cellphone,” said Sgt Styles Maome, communications officer for the Primrose police.

Before leaving, the accused allegedly locked the victim in a storeroom.

“She was able to call for help and a passerby heard her and chased after the accused, cornering him before calling police,” said Maome.

Officers arrived and arrested the man.

“During the arrest it was discovered that the gun used in the robbery was a toy,” Maome said.

The man has since appeared in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court on a charge of business robbery, where his case was postponed for a bail application.
