It was five minutes to closing time and staff at Food Fighters were serving their last customers of the evening. Little did owners Edward Stokell and Dirk Fourie, along with three of their staff members, know that they were about to become the victims of an armed robbery.

2. National news – Police describe Polokwane murder scene as ‘most gruesome’: https://bit.ly/2kQj5nA

“It is the most gruesome of scenes I have ever experienced.” These are the words of police spokesman Brig Motlafela Mojapelo after visiting the murder scene where Tanya Wiers (45) was attacked and killed in Logan Street, Eduan Park, Polokwane.

3. Forecasters have warned of the impact of tropical cyclone Dineo on parts of South Africa: https://bit.ly/2lRTNJY

The South African Weather Service warned that the tropical cyclone Dineo would move into parts of KwaZulu-Natal, Mpumalanga and Limpopo from Thursday evening (February 16). Forecasters warned that the impact of the storm would be felt from Friday in these regions and Mozambique, through heavy rainfall, flooding and strong winds and warned residents living in or travelling through low-lying areas to be vigilant.

Over the last three months, more than 25 per cent of all driveway robberies within the ADT footprint have taken place in Ekurhuleni suburbs, prompting the security provider to once again issue an alert to homeowners in these areas. “Germiston, Kempton Park and Edenvale have been particularly hard hit,” said Theunis Kotze, ADT general manager inland region.

5. Man goes missing after hospital visit: https://bit.ly/2l6A4pe

A distraught daughter, Cheryl Smith, reported her father, Steven John Smith (54), missing at the Germiston Police Station, recently. He was last seen at Bertha Gxowa Hospital where he had received treatment on December 7. He stays in Brackendowns, in Alberton, but has not returned home and thus far there is no trace of him.
