Community assist police in arrest

Man apprehended for attempted business robbery in Hackea Street, Primrose.

The Primrose police, with the help of the community and a local security company, recently arrested a 25-year-old man.

The man was charged with attempted business robbery.

He was apprehended in Hackea Street, Primrose, after police were called to the local business.

“When officers arrived they were told that the business owner had received a tip-off that something was happening at his property and asked his brother and their local security company to investigate.

“Upon his arrival the man says he noticed two men in the property, but seeing his torch light they ran away,” said communications officer for the Primrose police, Sgt Styles Maome.

Local security members, with the help of the owner’s brother, chased after the suspects and managed to corner one.

Police were called to the scene.

“We thank the people who caught the suspect for not taking the law into their own hands. They handed him to the police without injuries so that the law can take its due course,” Maome said.

The accused has since appeared in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court, where his case was postponed for plea and trial.

“Officers are still searching for the man’s accomplice,” said Maome.
