Crime a huge concern in Primrose’s informal settlements

The Primrose Police Station’s management recently visited the Delport and Marathon informal settlements to meet with residents.

Residents of the Delport and Marathon informal settlements, in Primrose, recently met with the management team from the Primrose Police Station to share their concerns about crime in the area.

Station commander, Col Albertina Vesi, chaired the community imbizo encouraging residents to come forward with their concerns.

“Crimes like rape, robbery and assaults remained one of the main concern areas for both the police and the community,” said Sgt Styles Maome, communications officer for the Primrose police.

Vesi also appealed to the community not to open false criminal cases or to disappear during the investigation process.

“This becomes a problem to our investigating officers as they are often unable to trace the complainants in cases.

“While others open cases with the intention to blackmail the accused for money,” she said.

During the meeting the community were encouraged to start community patrol teams.

These teams would work alongside police in fighting crime in the area.

“We hope the residents will get involved and help us to make the community safer,” Vesi said.
