Residents furious over alleged account errors

No comment from metro over alleged R28 000 mistake.

Many residents send in their meter reading and pay their municipal accounts diligently each month taking for granted that everything is fine.

This was not the case for the owners of an Elsburg home.

The owners of the York Street home, who do not wish to be named, claim that the metro has made several mistakes on their property’s water account which resulted in R28 000 in debt.

When they visited the metro’s offices to find out how the error had occurred and how the matter could be corrected they were allegedly told that no readings had been received for the property.

“We said we could bring proof that the reading had been submitted but we received no help,” the owner said.

The GCN attempted on several occasions to get comment from the metro about how the mistake had happened and what solutions they had to resolve the issue.

However, no comment was received.

The residents have since paid the outstanding debt the metro claims they owe in fear of having their supply cut.
