Local high school honoured

Primrose High School scooped no less than three awards at the Ekurhuleni North District prize-giving.

Primrose High School and two of its teachers received high praise at the annual prize-giving for the Ekurhuleni North District last Friday.

The school received three trophies at the event.

The first was a second place trophy for Best Improved Public School in the district in acknowledgement of the school’s 98 per cent pass rate.

The other two awards went to teachers.

The principal, André Grobler, received the award for the best tourism teacher and Dolph Willemse, the head of department for technology, received the award for the best electrical technology teacher.

Grobler, who has been principal of Primrose High for about two years, has been teaching tourism for about 16 years and this was his first award.

Willemse has been a teacher for 12 years and told the GCN he received numerous awards during his time as a teacher in District Six.

He has been teaching at Primrose High for four years and was pleased to receive an award in his new teaching district.

In 2015 Primrose High also boasted the award for the best learner in electrical technology in the district which was scooped by Gerard Mupfumisi.

“We are extremely happy and proud of the awards and acknowledgement the school has received,” said Grobler.

“We are looking forward to going from strength to strength and achieving more.”
