House fire contained

The dawn of last Tuesday saw a Delville home go up in flames.

A nine-roomed house in Delville caught fire last Tuesday.

Ekurhuleni Disaster and Emergency Management Services (DEMS) firefighters responded to the call they received at 2.30am.

“The Germiston Central Fire Station team swiftly responded to the call and on arrival, part of the house was burning fiercely,” said William Ntladi, district manager media liaison for DEMS.

“Offensive and direct fire attack was established to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading to the rest of the house.

“Back-up from the Boksburg Central Fire Station arrived minutes later.”

Ntladi also said that only two rooms were burnt, but flames spread to the other rooms.

“Two rooms, namely the lounge and one of the four bedrooms burnt down, and the other seven rooms were saved but they suffered smoke damage,” he said.

“The flames were extinguished without further damage extending to the remaining structure.”

According to Ntladi, no fatalities or injuries were recorded on the scene as a result of the fire.

The cause of the fire is still unknown and is under investigation.
