South African Weather Service warns of heavy rains in parts of Gauteng

There could be heavy rain today so be sure to take the necessary precautions.

As clouds begin to gather once again over Germiston the South African Weather Service has asked residents to be prepared for heavy rain.

In addition to the warning of heavy rains, over the central and southern parts of Gauteng, the service warned of severe thunderstorms and high discomfort values.

The warnings in more detail:

  • Heavy rain

These heavy rains may lead to flash floods over the central and southern parts of Gauteng.

  • Severe thunderstorms

Severe thunderstorms with the possibility of heavy downpours, localised flooding and hail are expected in parts of Gauteng, with special focus over the central and southern parts of Gauteng.

These storms are expected to hit the province in the afternoon.

  • High discomfort values

Hot and humid weather will result in extremely uncomfortable conditions over Gauteng for the rest of the week heading into the weekend.

Temperatures are expected to remain in the high twenties to low thirties for the rest of the week.

Residents are urged to take precautions when in the sun and are reminded to keep themselves and their pets hydrated and cool.

Motorists are reminded to take the necessary precautions when travelling in wet weather.

They are encouraged to reduce speed and increase their following distances and headlights should be kept on at all times to increase visibility.

Residents should also ensure that they shelter their pets.
