Alleged attempted murderer among 13 arrested

Operation held by the Katlehong SAPS Crime Prevention Unit leads to the arrest of 13 suspects.

A Katlehong woman was among 13 arrested in a recent police operation after she allegedly poisoned her son.

The operation was held in Katlehong South.

The 33-year-old woman was traced and arrested after community members alerted police to the incident.

“It is alleged that the woman forced her 12-year-old son to drink poison after he arrived home late after being sent to buy cold drinks from a local tuck shop.

“It was discovered that the boy came home late because he lost the money which angered his mother,” said Capt Mega Ndobe, of the Ekurhuleni West cluster.

The young boy was taken to hospital after community members saw him vomitting.

The remaining 12 suspects arrested during the operation were charged for various crimes, such as intimidation, common assault, assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm, possession of suspected stolen property, shoplifting, crimen injuria and possession of dagga.

All the arrested suspects appeared in the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court, where their cases were postponed for various reasons.
