Roads to be closed in Germiston CBD on Wednesday for memorial service

Ekurhuleni to remember Mama Thandi Klaasen in Germiston tomorrow.

The metro will remember Mama Thandi Klaasen, an internationally acclaimed singer, song writer and stylist tomorrow at a memorial service at the Germiston City Hall.

Klaasen passed away on January 15, after a long battle with pancreatic cancer.

She was a resident of Eden Park for a long time.

The metro passed a council resolution, on January 20, to accord Klaasen a civic funeral, giving her a befitting send off as an immense contributor towards building social cohesion in her society.

Gauteng Premier Hon David Makhura, executive mayor Clr Mzwandile Masina and representatives from the Ministry of Arts and Culture and the music fraternity will be among the dignitaries to grace the occasion.

The metro advises members of the public that there will be road closures in the Germiston CBD in the vicinity of the city hall from 5am until 6pm.

Roads which will be affected are:

  • The intersection of Lambert and Queen streets.
  • The intersection of Lambert and President streets.
  • The intersection of President and Spilsbury streets.
