Prim Villa’s bright welcome

Trees help Prim Villa stand out in a sea of concrete.

People passing by noticed a change recently outside Prim Villa in Primrose Hill.

The home, that specialises in the care of people with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia, decided to wrap the trees on its pavement.

“We decided to wrap the trees for two main reasons,” explained Prim Villa manager Sharon Flint.

“The first reason is to help visitors to the home find us more easily and the second is to show our support for causes close to our hearts.”

The trees were first wrapped in turquoise, in May 2016, for the Go Turquoise Campaign that raised awareness about the plight of the elderly and seeks to increase society’s awareness and response to the needs of the elderly so they can achieve an optimal quality of life.

In October 2016 the wrapping changed to pink in honour of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

In November red dominated the tree wrappings in honour of World Aids Day and to celebrate the festive season.

“The residents’ families and visitors have said it helps them to know where to turn,” said Flint.

The home encourages the community to get involved and help them to decide on new causes and colours for the year.

The community can call the home on 011 873-8677.
