“The young man appealed to the Katlehong police for helping in finding his long-lost family in early January,” explained Capt Mega Ndobe of the Ekurhuleni West cluster.

It is reported that Sifiso lost his family during a visit to Sibokeng when he was six years old.

After attempts to find his family failed, he went into foster care, and Maggie Ntswele began to raise him as her own.

“His foster mother helped him to approach the police,” said Ndobe.

“He explained that he remembered his mother’s and father’s names and knew he had three siblings, two older and one younger.

“Once officers had gathered all the information they could, the search began.”

Days later, Mbhekeni and Sifiso were reunited.

“As a formality, DNA testing will be done to confirm that Mbhekeni is indeed Sifiso’s father,” said Ndobe.
