The first weekend of the New Year was busy for the SAPS Ekurhuleni West cluster stations, with the arrest of 89 suspects.
The arrests were made during several police operations conducted by the cluster’s Crime Prevention Unit from January 6 to 8, with suspects being arrested for various offences.
The station break down was:
- Katlehong South police arrested 18 suspects. Charges include armed robbery, possession of dagga and nyaope, assault, intimidation and crimen injuria.
- Katlehong North police arrested three suspects for assault with the intention to cause grievous bodily harm; malicious damage to property and possession of suspected stolen property.
- Zonkizizwe police arrested two suspects for assault with the intention to cause grievous bodily harm.
- Germiston police arrested four suspects for driving under the influence of alcohol; possession of dagga, shoplifting and interference with police duties.
- Primrose police arrested only one suspect – for assault with the intention to cause grievous bodily harm.
- Elsburg police arrested seven suspects for attempted business robbery; possession of dagga and drugs; assault with the intention to cause grievous bodily harm, malicious damage to property and contempt of court.
- Vosloorus police arrested 13 suspects for driving under the influence of alcohol; possession of dagga; theft, common assault, possession of suspected stolen property and shoplifting.
- Eden Park police arrested three suspects for theft out of motor vehicle; assault with the intention to cause grievous bodily harm and malicious damage to property.
- Tokoza police arrested nine suspects for possession of dagga, assault, housebreaking and theft, theft, intimidation and possession of suspected stolen property.
- Alberton police arrested 17 suspects for attempted murder, rape, hijacking, attempted business robbery, assault with the intention to cause grievous bodily harm, common assault, theft, fraud, possession of dagga and shoplifting.
- Bedfordview police arrested five suspects for fraud, shoplifting and contravening a court order.
- Brackendowns police arrested six suspects for for driving under the influence of alcohol, fraud and theft.
All of the arrested suspects are expected to appear in the Germiston, Palm Ridge or Vosloorus Magistrate’s Courts soon.
