Class of 2016 celebrates

Germiston High School learners were thrilled with their matric results.

The dawn of January 5 saw the release of the 2016 matric results and Germiston High School learners were among those, who were thrilled to receive their results.

The school had a pass rate of 95.75 per cent and 52 distinctions.

The deputy principal of the school, Renée Goosen, was pleased with all of their 166 matriculants.

“We’re very happy with the pass rate and although some of the pupils struggled during the year, they pulled through,” she said.

“The matriculants performed better than expected; they overcame many obstacles and challenges.

“The staff also did tremendous work helping the learners; we have hard working staff members.”

The school’s top achievers were Nhlurile Hlatshwayo and Mbalenhle Ndhlovu, who produced 10 distinctions between them.

Hlatshwayo was overwhelmed with her six distinctions and said: “I got distinctions for life orientation, Afrikaans, life sciences, mathematics, accounting and physical sciences.

“I knew that I did well, but I had no idea that I had performed this great.

“I want to study medicine at the University of the Witwatersrand and I hope to get a bursary.”

Ndhlovu obtained four distinctions in accounting, business studies, economics and life orientation.

She said: “I’m excited and thrilled with my results – and I want to study a BCom accounting sciences, either at the University of Johannesburg or University of the Witwatersrand.”

Goosen added that the pupils put in a lot of effort.

“Most of the learners had to push themselves to reach their potential and they did,” she said.

“We always want to and work towards improving our pass rate every year.”
