Be prepared for more thunderstorms, heavy rainfall and hot weather – says SA Weather Service

South African Weather Service warns of severe thunderstorms and damaging winds predicted in parts of the province from this afternoon.

The South African Weather Service has asked residents to be prepared for more thunderstorms, heavy rainfall and hot weather.

The service this morning released the following warnings:

Severe thunderstorms with the possibliblity of heavy downpours, localised flooding and hail are expected in parts of Gauteng, with special focus on the West Rand.

These storms are expected to hit the province in the afternoon.

Strong winds are expected in places in Gauteng from Wednesday (tomorrow) mainly during the afternoon.

Hot and humid weather will result in extremely uncomfortable conditions over Gauteng for the rest of the week heading into the weekend.

Temperatures are expected to remain in the high twenties to low thirties for the rest of the week.

Residents are urged to take precautions when in the sun and are reminded to keep themselves and their pets hydrated and cool.

Motorists are reminded to take the necessary precautions when travelling in wet weather.

They are encouraged to reduce speed and increase their following distances and headlights should be kept on at all times to increase visibility.

Residents should also ensure that they shelter their pets.
