Warning: Severe thunderstorms predicted for the province this afternoon

Community urged to be careful when travelling as severe thunderstorms and heavy rain are predicted.

Dark clouds are slowly gathering in parts of Gauteng this afternoon.

The South Africa Weather Service has warned residents to be on high alert as severe thunderstorms and heavy rain are predicted to hit the province this afternoon.

The wet weather is expected to last the rest of the week and head into the weekend.

Full list of warnings:

  • Severe Thunderstorms:
Severe thunderstorms with the possibility of large hail and damaging winds and reduced visibility expected in some areas of Gauteng from 11am to 11pm.
  •  Flooding:
Localised flooding is expected in  low-lying parts of the province until 10pm.

Motorists are reminded to take the necessary precautions when travelling.

  • Extreme Heat

Extremely hot conditions are expected over the northern parts of Gauteng.

  • High discomfort values

Hot and humid weather will result in extremely uncomfortable conditions over parts of Gauteng.

When travelling residents are encouraged to reduce speed and increase their following distances and headlights should be kept on at all times to increase visibility.

Residents should also ensure that they shelter their pets.
