Man found with unlicensed firearm

A man was arrested by the Primrose police after being found in the possession of an unlicensed firearm and live ammunition.

While on patrol near the Marathon informal settlement recently, officers from the Primrose Police Station noticed a vehicle parked near Johan Rissik Road.

Suspicious, they approached the vehicle.

When the occupants saw the SAPS van they sped off towards the Germiston CBD.

The officers gave chase and after a high speed chase in the CBD, they were able to stop the vehicle.

Each of the occupants and the vehicle was searched by the police.

During the search, a rusted Norinco with four rounds of ammunition was found in the possession of a 30-year-old passenger.

“Police asked him for the firearm’s license, but he did not have one.

“He was arrested on the spot and detained at the Primrose Police Station,” said Sgt Styles Maome, the communications officer for the Primrose police.

The suspect has since appeared in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court, where his case was postponed for a bail application.
