Residents of the Makause informal settlement protested outside the Germiston Magistrate’s Court demanding that an alleged murderer not get bail after the death of his wife and child.
Community members from the Makause informal settlement, in Primrose, protested outside the Germiston Magistrate’s Court, last Monday. The residents were opposing the bail of 38-year-old man who allegedly shot and killed his wife and child.
President Street was closed off in front of the Germiston Magistrate’s Court, on Monday, as residents from the Makause informal settlement opposed the bail of an alleged murderer.
The 38-year-old man allegedly shot and killed his wife and daughter, on November 23.

“It is alleged that after he committed the crime he phoned a detective at the Germiston Police Station and informed him that he wanted to hand himself over to police but that he was scared of the Primrose police.
“The man was arrested by the Germiston police and handed over to the Primrose police where he was formally charged,” said communications officer for the Primrose police, Sgt Styles Maome.
The community members marched to the court hand-in-hand from the informal settlement to the court in a protest against the crime and other crimes in the area.

The accused was denied bail and will remain in custody until he appears in court again on December 6.
