Man nabbed for stealing a motor vehicle

Man claims that his cousin stole his mother’s vehicle while he was sleeping.

The Primrose police recently arrested a 26-year-old man for theft of a motor vehicle.

The arrest was made in the Marathon informal settlement, after the accused’s cousin opened a case against him.

“The complainant alleged he visited his cousin using his mother’s car, and parked the vehicle at his cousin’s home for the night.

“He reported that when he woke up he discovered that the car and his cousin were gone,” said Sgt Styles Maome, communications officer for the Primrose police.

When the suspect returned to his shack, his family cornered him and brought him to the Primrose Police Station.

“During questioning by police he confessed that he had stolen the car and sold it in Soweto for R3 500,” said Maome.

He was arrested and detained at the station, pending his appearance in the Germiston Magistrates Court.

“Officers were able to recover the stolen vehicle in Soweto.

“The engine numbers had already been tampered with by the time the vehicle was recovered,” Maome said.

Police are now searching for the man who bought the stolen car.
