Care for animals this festive season

Primrose’s Loets Pets in a Tub runs Christmas Drive again.

Pets of all kinds stand to benefit from Loets Pets in a Tub’s Christmas Drive.

The drive was initiated last year for the Germiston SPCA, and its success has led to the decision to run it again this year.

The local pet and grooming salon’s founder, Loets Marthinus, told the GCN that the drive came about when she was thinking about the number of animals that are abandoned.

“The SPCA is the one place most of us think about when we pick up an abandoned animal,” said Marthinus.

“They already have a lot of animals to care for and the number of stray and abandoned animals increases during the festive season, which puts more pressure on them.

“It is for this reason, together with my love for animals, that I decided to have this drive, of which the SPCA has full knowledge and supports.”

Marthinus also said that the response from people was overwhelming and she hopes that people will again heed her call to help the SPCA.

“I am reaching out to the community to help with this initiative,” she said.

“We are collecting animal food, blankets, leashes, leads and bowls; those are among the major requirements.

“The response I have received from some of my clients, so far, is amazing.

“I am humbled by the response and I hope we will have enough to deliver on the day of the handover, so that the SPCA can have enough to care for the animals.”

People interested in helping are welcome to drop off donations at the shop, at 107 Beaconsfield Avenue, in Primrose.

Marthinus also said her doors are open every day from 8am to 6pm.

“I know the donations will really help them a lot,” she explained.

“I added a bit of fun to it: anybody who donates the most will receive a free pampering groom for one pet.”

The drive started on November 20 and people have until December 20 to bring in their donations.
