Fouriesburg police link man to Primrose housebreaking

A 27-year-old man was arrested by the Fouriesburg police and linked to a 2005 housebreaking and theft.

A cold case finally saw results when a man was arrested, 11 years later, for an August 2005 housebreaking and theft.

The case was first reported to police in August 2005. While opening the case at the Primrose Police Station, the victim told officers that he had left the Drakensburg Flats, in St Joseph Street, at 9am.

When he returned at 1pm he discovered that his flat had been broken into and a number of his belongings were gone.

“He gave officers the name of the man he believed to be responsible for the crime.

“Police searched for the suspect but were unable to find him and the case went cold,” said Sgt Styles Maome, the communications officer for the Primrose police.

The man’s name and description was circulated through the SAPS and 11 years later the man was arrested by the Fouriesburg police.

The accused, now 27 years old, was found through fingerprint scanning as he attempted to enter South Africa from Lesotho.

He was charged with housebreaking and theft, and was sent to the Primrose Police Station.

“This is an indication that nobody can run away from the long arm of the law,” said Maome.

The man appeared in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court where his case was postponed for plea and trial.
