Germiston and Ekurhuleni at large were hit by a fierce thunderstorm on Wednesday evening, which led to localised flash flooding and caused damage throughout the region.
On the N3 near Linksfield, the flooding left two people dead and scores injured. Paramedics and rescue crews from a number of services assisted throughout the evening.
Germiston residents also had to deal with flooded roads and damage to property.
Ward 92 councillor Tiziana Burtone (now Plaskitt) thanked emergency services, metro departments and community members for putting in hours of work to help people during the flash flooding.
