In case you missed this week’s top stories.

The top five stories on www.germistoncitynews.co.za for the week, November 5 to 11, were:

1. Breaking News: Water rationing to start on Monday: https://bit.ly/2f7Fkmk

The metro was said to start with water rationing measures from November 7 in an effort to save water. The municipality has no choice but to take this drastic step as voluntary water saving measures by residents have averaged a savings rate of about 3.5 per cent a week, a far cry from the required 15 per cent. Recent rains have not significantly improved water levels. The country needs good rainfall for an extended period to come out of the drought of recent years.

The South African Weather Service predicted that parts of the country would have above normal rainfall from November 9 to 12. This came after heavy rains and flash floods wreaked havoc in Ekurhuleni on Wednesday.

3. Keep an eye out for snakes: https://bit.ly/2f8SoKF

We are well into spring and the weather is nice and warm. This also means that snakes will now be up and about, after a long period of hibernation, hungry and in search of food. From mid-August until late May it is snake season, and the metro cautions pet owners to be on high alert and keep an eye on their domestic pets as they may fall prey to snakes.
