Women celebrated at awards ceremony

Women and their businesses were in the spotlight at the Gauteng Margaret Hirsch Woman in Business Achiever of the Year awards.

Women were recently celebrated at the Gauteng Margaret Hirsch Woman in Business Achiever of the Year awards.

At the gala evening, held at the Ballroom at Monte Casino, Margaret Hirsch, who started the competition countrywide after winning several awards herself over the years, said, “Awards give credibility to one’s business, and as women we tend to shy away from being in the limelight.

“We also tend not to be assertive enough.

“This is my way of encouraging women to put themselves and their businesses in the spotlight.

“The winners and runners-up are people who not only run successful businesses, but are making a difference to the lives of others in all the areas in which they live – and ultimately, the lives of people in our beautiful country, South Africa.”

The guest speaker at the awards evening was Dawn Lindberg, an icon in the South African entertainment industry for the last 50 years.

Dawn and her husband, Des, were recently appointed “Living Legends” by the Minister of Arts and Culture Nathi Mthethwa.

No stranger to awards ceremonies, Dawn conceived and created the Naledi Theatre Awards in 2004 and has built it into the biggest and most respected awards event in SA to honour excellence in live SA theatre.

Entertainment during the evening was provided by opera singer Nozuko Teto, singer/songwriter, Elsabe Rademeyer; singer Carina Renz, popular Afrikaans singer Chantelle Bosch and the slick and professional belly-dance team from Hizi-Hizi.
