Photo round-up: Storm wreaks havoc

Germiston residents share their photos of the storm.

Germiston and Ekurhuleni at large was hit by a fierce thunderstorm on Wednesday evening, which led to localised flash flooding and caused damaged throughout the region.

On the N3 near Linksfield, the flooding left two people dead and scores injured.

Paramedics and rescue crews from a number of services assisted throughout the evening to help.

Germiston residents also had to deal with flooded roads and damage to property.

Ward 92 councillor Tiziana Burtone (now Plaskitt) thanked emergency services, metro departments and community members for putting in hours of work to help people during the flash flooding.

“Metro teams were sent out, emergency services, community members, CPF members and community watch groups all assisted those who were left stranded or needed assistance,” she said.

Community members are warned be on high alert as more storms are predicted and must be mindful of debris which could be blocking roads, due to Wednesday’s storm.
