Man arrested for breaking into local tavern

Local business owner discovers man hiding in his tavern.

The Primrose police recently arrested an 18-year-old man for breaking into a business.

The arrest was made after police were called to a Makause informal settlement tavern.

The owner told police that, after closing his tavern for the night, he had taken his DJ home. When he returned, 35 minutes later, he realised something was amiss.

“While unlocking the tavern he heard footsteps inside.

“Upon further investigation he found the accused hiding inside the tavern,” said Sgt Styles Maome, communications officer for the Primrose police.

When police arrived on the scene they searched the man and found a hammer, which the owner alleges he used to damage his snooker table, R90 in cash and cigarettes.

The man was arrested and taken to the Primrose Police Station.

He has since appeared in the Germiston Magistrates Court, where his case was postponed for plea and trial.
