Help Mamba show their gratitude

The Mamba Security annual Christmas School Drive collection is in full swing.

Decorations are up in the shops, and everyone is starting to get into a festive mood.

This includes local company Mamba Security.

The team from Mamba recently embarked on its annual Christmas School Drive ,which sees the company reaching out to local schools for donations.

“We set up big red bins at a number of schools and the children are encouraged to donate,” said Elaine Griffin, from Mamba.

Donations can be anything from non-perishable food, toys and second-hand clothing, to animal food or even furniture and linen.

The collected items will be divided and donated to a number of charities, including El-Shammah Home for Abandoned Babies and Place of Safety, Silkworth Recovery Centre, Prim Villa, Remme-Los, Germiston SPCA, Avril Elizabeth Home and the Elandsvallei Home for the Aged.

The company began the project 21 years ago and it has grown each year.

“When the project was first started, Barry Munro, founder of Mamba, went to Klopper Park Primary School to explain what the project was about and to encourage the children to give towards the cause,” Edith Vorster, from Mamba, explained.

”As he was walking to his car, a six-year-old boy came up to him and, despite the bitter August cold, gave Barry his pair of gloves as a donation towards the project.”

This touched Barry’s heart and, from that day on the team decided that they had to do something to thank the children for their donations.

“This year we will be visiting several schools and thanking approximately 6 000 children,” said Elaine.

To do this the company is appealing to the community and local businesses to donate individually wrapped sweets, chips, cold drinks and other items that can be made into individual goodie bags for each child.

The donations need to be in by November 25, allowing the team time to make up the goodie bags.

If you would like to get involved, or for more information on the project, call Edith or Elaine on 084 261 2372, or visit the Mamba offices, at the Mustang Diner, 25 Main Road, Fishers’ Hill.
