The metro will start with water rationing measures from this week, in an effort to save water. The municipality has no choice but to take this drastic step, as voluntary water savings measures by residents have averaged a savings rate of about 3.5 per cent a week, a far cry from the required 15 per cent. Recent rains have not significantly improved water levels. The country needs good rainfall for an extended period to come out of the drought of recent years.

During a recent meeting with the member of the mayoral committee (MMC) for water and sanitation, Clr Tiisetso Nketle, the water limits imposed by the metro were clarified. Nketle put confusion to rest by stating exactly what Ekurhuleni’s water restrictions entail.

Although the metro encourages residents to have boreholes installed, it was recently made clear that the restrictions on outdoor use of water – including the prohibition of using hosepipes and filling swimming pools – are applicable to boreholes.

The metro warned customers in Germiston that technicians would carrying out essential electrical equipment repair work at the 33KV substation on Friday, November 4 and Saturday, November 5.

5. Severe thunderstorm warning for Gauteng: https://bit.ly/2emuXwA

The South African Weather Service recently released a warning of severe thunderstorms, as well as veld fire conditions. It was reported that these extreme weather conditions were the result of the high temperatures the province has experienced over preceding few days.
