Lambton Klip Sector Four CPF declares war on drugs

Local CPF launches community drug awareness campaign “Get high on life, kiss drugs goodbye”.

The community is urged to join the Lambton Klip Sector Four CPF (LKCPF) in the fight against drugs.

At the organisation’s last meeting of the year, at 7pm on November 10, at Afrikaanse Hoërskool Germiston, the CPF will launch their community drug awareness campaign, “Get high on life, kiss drugs goodbye”.

Come along with your family and friends and listen to the guest speaker, who will be discussing drug abuse.

“Anyone living with an addict in their lives would likely tell you that alcoholism and drug dependency affect more people than just the abusers themselves,” said Pine Pienaar, vice-chairman of the LKCPF.

“While alcohol is the most commonly used addictive substance in South Africa, millions of others abuse other substances, such as heroin, cocaine, marijuana (dagga), methamphetamine (meth), prescription narcotics and more.

“But there is hope, and there is help available, even though only a small percentage of addicts seek treatment each year.”

Pienaar added that many adults are uninformed or in denial about drug use, and their attitudes contribute to, or enable young people to engage in drug using behaviour.

According to the Partnership for a Drug Free South Africa, many parents need to become better educated about the drug situation.

“Today’s parents see less risk in drugs like marijuana, cocaine and even inhalants, when compared to parents just a few years ago,” Pienaar said.

“Community indifference allows the drug problem to escalate and, in some communities, drug abuse goes hand-in-hand with community apathy.

“If drug dealing and use are allowed to flourish within a community, there is little chance that progress can or will be made.

“Drug use and drug peddling are part of the crime monster that feasts in our community and gives people the need and drive to break into houses and steal/mug to feed their habits.

“Let’s fight this monster together.”
